Stand-up comic Carl Joshua Ncube, who embarked on a successful three-city comedy tour in December, is starting the year on a high note, finalising a live DVD recording of his act and currently preparing for an international tour.
The DVD, featuring Ncube’s groundbreaking performance at 7 Arts in Harare, will be distributed free of charge to retailers in order to expose it to a greater audience in the Zimbabwean market. “We are going to give retailers the DVD for free so that they can distribute it at the lowest price possible to cut out the middlemen. We want the market to have access to it,” he said. Ncube, who can dish out jokes at a flash and prove that laughter can indeed be the best medicine, will embark on an international tour that will see him visit Lusaka, Blantyre, Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Lagos, London, Manchester, New York, Texas, Brisbane, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Grahamstown and Johannesburg. “It’s the tour of my life, it’s the biggest thing that I have ever done, and my opportunity to export my culture to the rest of the world,” he said. “This is going to be a really big tour — I think it’s the first of its kind from Zimbabwe.” The comedian said that an ongoing documentary which will chronicle the evolution of his stand-up comic act is going to be produced and released at the end of 2012. “The dream is to bring the world together through a common denominator — laughter. The tour will showcase a different side of Zimbabwe. It will show that our country has more to offer than the perceived issues that have created an untrue stereotype of Zimbabweans. The world must know Zimbabweans as warm people that love to laugh, love art and love their sadza,” he said with a chuckle.
