Johannesburg for me so far (THE TRUTH)

It all started with a really frustrated day after a SIMUKA COMEDY event, speaking to the other comics in Zimbabwe about our desires and plans for this industry. So much new talent coming through the ranks and no structure to nurture it, then it dawned on me. If Zimbabwe was to pose any real impact on the world of comedy we needed to send one of our own to the sharks and nearest coastline was South Africa. We had to test Zimbabwe comedy in an environment where we could truley judge how much work needed to be done. Best person to do this was none other than I will stay on the street for 7 days to campaign against piracy dude AKA YOURS TRUELY.

Moving to Johannesburg? What a daunting task this was for me. To subject myself to being at the bottom of the heap once again, to start from scratch and be the peanut in a sea of Mammoth Comedians of the South African Comedy industry, could my Zimbabwean "Wakapenga mdhara" ego fueled by acoustic night and mannenberg and book cafe fans be able to handle? The only thought I had was "Its better to start climbing from the bottom really tall ladder than to be at the top of a really small one.

Mazoe had fortunately believed this mission of going to South Africa would work by paying for my accomodation for my first 2 months of shows and from there I would have to fend for myself. My team and I packed our bags and boarded "imbwa yevanhu" Greyhound (the worst travelling experience I have ever had so far...story and video to follow). We got stuck in immediately with shows at legendary South African Comedian Joe Parker's "PARKERS COMEDY AND JIVE" at Montecasino. I had no idea I would get stuck in and meet people I had only seen on television Hannes Brummer, Dave Levinsohn, Joe Parker what an awesome night. Nervous as hell I took to the stage as the International Act that night to applause and laughter throughout my set and it all ended like a flash.

Grahamstown was next. ZIMBOS  galore would welcome one of its sons in style...out of a translux (lol...budgetry constraints am sure) I got to go on the RMR radio station, awesome set of people running this station. Then the show. Other local comics that included a legend in the making Tyson Ngubeni. I got on stage and oh my gosh it was just an awesome experience, all the rhodents Zimbo and other were in stitches throughout.

Back to Johannesburg and this time we have just moved into our Mazoe Manor, an incredible apartment overlooking an amazing view of the whole East of Johannesburg. More shows, I would meet Kedibone Mulaudzi oh my gosh and an appearance by one of my favourite comics David Kibuuka and none other than comic legend Mr Eugene Khoza all in one night and someone who had my ribs in stiches the entire week Mojak Lehoko. Its the URBAN Comedy Nights, thats what they call them and I would be performing at PArkers Comedy Club, Carnival City and Emperors Palace, what an experience. I have become a sponge soaking up everything I see, hear and its going great so far.
